15 Deadly Mistakes Stopping You from Making Money Online
Making money online doesn’t have to be difficult. There are hundreds of ways to do it like: Ebay, Amazon, Upwork, blogging, and so much more. Yet so many people have lots of trouble finding a way to use the internet to drive money into your bank account.
After consulting hundreds of people on how to make money online, here are 15 deadly mistakes stopping you from making money online.
#1 You’re Not Being Consistent
Consistency is hard. Every day—day in and day out, you have to do the same thing. You have to show up and give it your all. You MUST do it, even when you are not making the progress you’d like. You must be consistent even when you don’t feel like doing it, or you are too busy.
It means you have to stop doing activities that are purely for enjoyment, like watching hours of tv everyday or drinking with your buddies every night. These activities take time and focus away from what really matters.
#2 You’re Not Giving Enough Value
No one will ever say you are providing them “too much value.” The key here is to figure out what exactly your clients (or your audience members) wish to achieve and help them achieve that end result. By doing this you provide them with real value.
If you’re not making money online, and you’ve been working at it… there’s a distinct possibility that you’re not giving enough value to your audience.
#3 You’re in the Wrong Target Market
The best efforts in the world applied to the wrong clients are worse than shoddy effort applied to the right clients.
The more time you spend learning who exactly your client is, the better you can serve them. Get to know them on a personal level, understand the words they say. Develop an innate understanding of the thoughts they think, and the beliefs they have.
Only then, can you truly craft a message that speaks to them.
Audit your current list, audience, and clients. Are they your ideal clients? If so—awesome! If not, who do you actually want as clients, and what marketing can you do to attract them?
#4 You Don’t Have Native Content
You know the people who send you those automated direct messages on Twitter, asking you to buy their ebook? How about the people who post their new Facebook post on Twitter? This content isn’t native and will never actually work. It mainly just turns people off and away from your content.
All content (be it on social media, blog posts, or podcasts) needs to be native. This means that you need to think about what sort of content will do well independently on each social platform.
Yes, it takes longer, and is not necessarily as easy as pummeling out a single social message to all your platforms. When done right, it works, engages your audience and gets you attention.
#5 You Have a Leaky Funnel
Imagine spending thousands of dollars, time and energy to get 10,000 leads, but at the end of the day you have zero sales. Based on this scenario, chances are you have a leaky funnel.
At some point, between when your customers are interested and ready to buy, they fall off. They get distracted and leave your sales page or a variety of other scenarios that prevent them from taking action. Something about making the purchase for them is too difficult. Something just goes awry and you lose the opportunity.
This is a leaky funnel. Figure out what you have to do to plug those leaks and your sales will explode (maybe this means getting a funnel expert to take a look at your online funnel!).
#6 You’re Not Being Authentic
What is the fastest way to lose trust with your audience? The fastest way is to be something you are not. Maybe you’re trying to sell the same thing that someone else is selling, without adding your own twist to it. Maybe you’re just trying to be someone else because you know they’re doing well and selling well. But… it’s NOT YOU.
Authenticity is the key to building trust and relationships. Stop trying to do and be everyone else. Just be you—DO YOU.
#7 You Don’t Feel Worthy of Success
Your self-worth equals your net worth. If you don’t believe in yourself, your business, or your product, you will never be able to make sales or capitalize on opportunities. If you have a low self-worth, every little setback will knock you on your ass.
When you truly believe in yourself, you’ll get up every time you get knocked down. In fact, you’ll see every setback as an opportunity to practice getting back up on your feet—fast.
#8 You’re Not Putting in Enough Effort & Action
This is life: there are winners and losers. Simply put, the winners put in more effort than the losers.
Sometimes if you aren’t doing well, it is pure and simple—a lack of real effort. Are you putting in enough man hours, or are you sitting there like you’re in the movie: Office Space? Hustle harder, grind 5% more, and smarter. Do massive action for the tasks that are actually getting you real results.
Maybe you are just three feet from gold.
#9 You’re Not Applying Your Effort to Results
Maybe you are putting the effort in, but you are applying all that hard work to the wrong actions. Like trying to knock down a building with a giant teddy bear.
Pareto’s Law states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your action. What actions generate you the most results in your business?
#10 You’re Not Asking for the Sale
In the book “Jab Jab Jab Right Hook,” Gary Vaynerchuk talks about the formula for making sales online. The concept is simple, give value over and over again, then ask for the sale. The book was specifically written for the Jabbers.
You have to ask, you have to say buy my course “Snapchat Mastery.” Yes, that was a shameless plug… now go check it out, haha.
#11 You Have a Terrible Product
Yep, if you aren’t making money take a look at your product. Terrible products don’t sell. Sure you might make a few sales here and there, but you won’t get that massive flux of cash you’re looking for.
Ask your customers how you can make your product better. Figure out exactly what they need and build it.
#12 You Don’t Have Social Proof or Credibility
Social proof and testimonials go a long way. People are afraid of feeling stupid. They want to know “can your product help me? Are other people like me taking this course? Is this worth my time?” They can get all these answers with some testimonials.
If you have a great product then you can easily get testimonials. They will naturally come in. That being said, use all social proof you can get. If 1,457 other people have downloaded your course, showcase it.
#13 You’re Not Differentiating
This ties right into authenticity. If you are trying to recreate the same thing everyone else is doing, you won’t get any attention. You MUST be different. You have to be original and create something that solves a unique need.
Think about how you can be different from the noise of the market while incorporating your authentic personality and voice. That will be a magical formula for you!
#14 You’re in a Negative Emotional State Too Often
How you do anything is how you do everything. If you are in a negative emotional state often, that energy will transfer to what you are creating. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are ups and downs to everything. The point is not to live in the negative states.
Make sure whenever you are creating anything in your business you are in the right mental and emotional states, something positive and uplifting.
#15 You’re Rushing
If you are not giving your business the space it needs, you very well could be setting yourself up for failure. If you are rushing to complete a project, you will naturally start cutting corners. You will make mistakes, and push out the project to fast.
Slow down, sit with the work you’re doing and appreciate the journey. You only get one rise to the top and every aspect of it is a gift.
That is the 15 reasons why you are not making money online. I hope this article helps you steer clear of these deadly mistakes!
